| President Lisa Stackpole: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
I would like to acknowledge our 2008 Board of Directors and Staff. Please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, ideas, or suggestions that you may have. It's always nice to hear some words of encouragement or simply a gesture of appreciation. We have an extremely dedicated team who are always working behind the scenes and continuously thinking of better ways to enhance our Club for your benefit. 2008 Paugusset Board of Directors and Staff Lisa Stackpole - President (president@paugy.com) We have a fun-filled summer planned at Paugy this year and we hope that you and your family will partake in many of the festivities. A detailed list of the exciting social events is enclosed in this newsletter. Our new Social Co-Chairs have added new children and adult functions this summer, so please be sure to save the dates. We don't want you to miss out on any of the good times! Capital improvements - Having completely renovated our big pool in 2007, we are putting the finishing> touches on our brand new enlarged kiddie pool this week. This is only one of our recent capital improvements. We are also in the process of completing the expansion of our parking lot to accommodate up to 40 additional vehicles beginning this season. Our next major capital improvement will be the tennis courts. We are currently accepting RFP's for the demolition and reconstruction of 6 of our 9 tennis courts (3 hard courts and 3 har tru), including new lighting, fencing, walkways, etc. We hope to begin this project in the fall. Snack bar - We have contracted with a new caterer this year who will indulge us with delicious meals, exotic drinks, and healthy snacks at very reasonable prices. We hope that you will enjoy the new menu. Please stop by the snack bar and introduce yourselves and set up your tabs for the summer. Golf - We are again happy to offer you golf privileges with our affiliate Race Brook Country Club (RBCC). Paugy members will now have 2 options this year, golf/dining package or dining only package at affordable pricing. In return, Paugy will incur revenue from any RBCC member who wishes to join our Club as an Associate Member. We have also made special arrangements with Orange Hills Country Club (OHCC). Paugy members are eligible to golf at OHCC Mondays & Tuesdays as well as Saturdays & Sundays after 3pm for special discount prices. Complete details will be available to you at the Front Desk on Opening Day. Please be sure to take a copy home with you. In closing, I remind you to adhere to the Rules & Regulations of the Club. They will always be strictly enforced. Guest sign in is a must. Non-members or former Paugy members will not be allowed into the Club without a member present. Guest fees will apply. I look forward to seeing you all at the Club and wish you a happy & healthy summer. Lisa Stackpole, Club President

| President-Elect Rich Zorena: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Paugusset Club, from its start in 1951, has always been a "member-run" club. We are fortunate to have an energetic board who donates time all year, meeting at least monthly (if not more frequently) regarding "our club". With the numerous projects undertaken this season, i.e., parking lot improvements, snack bar upgrade and new baby pool, there were many discussions and hours contributed, especially by our very capable B&G Chairman Phil Grande, to deliver the finished product you will see on opening day. With the reconstruction of the tennis courts in the fall, there will be many more hours contributed "behind the scenes." If the opportunity presents itself, please follow our lead by lending a hand and offering your trade or service gratis or at a reduced rate. It will be gratefully accepted. As you look around the Club this summer and notice the improvements, be sure to say thank you to the next board member you see. Remember, we can always use your help. Have a great "Paugy Summer." Richard J. Zorena, President-Elect |

| Buildings & Grounds Chair Phil Grande: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
With opening day just around the corner we are wrapping up some big winter projects. The buildings and grounds department has been busy working on the improvements we talked about last fall. These projects include the pool area, parking lot and the snack bar. The new Kiddie Pool is installed and ready for final details including the Sprinkler water feature. We've constructed a larger pool with no step for entry, just a gradual decline into the water. Another added element is the expanded patio area around the pool. A shade canopy for part of the patio is in the plan but requires some additional engineering work in order to be allowed. I anticipate completed installation by early summer. A new chain link fence which meets current pool building codes is being installed now to help our entire pool area come into compliance. During the course of construction some other improvements were necessary. The water main and several outdated valves in the pool area have been replaced through the efforts of our Pool Contractor (Brock Pools), Paugy member Tony Coscia (TC's Plumbing), and our landscaping contractor (Ivy League Landscaping – my company). The Parking lot expansion is well underway. With the help of Paugy member Gerry Panico (Architect) we have devised a plan which will turn the parking lot 90 degrees, so that a few rows of parking will be added. One of the center tree islands has been removed and will be replaced with stone and some parking bumpers. Special thanks go out to the members who helped clean up some of the wood. We anticipate adding some spaces along the edge of the parking lot near the stone wall as well. I expect the new areas to be crushed stone for a while so any settling can occur before asphalt is installed. Some of the existing asphalt problem areas will be repaired in time for the season. Our snack bar will be run this year by Jim Turnbull of Orange, who has accepted our rental terms and looks forward to opening The Paugusset Grill and Oasis Bar for our enjoyment. The board has decided to invest in our own equipment upgrade for the snack bar which we will implement with the assistance of Jim and his staff. We also have some surprises in store for you which, at this point, I will leave to your imagination. As always, if something comes to mind regarding the buildings and grounds at our club, feel free to contact me. Email is best – buildings@paugy.com or phil@soundviewlandscape.com. Phil

| Membership Chair Liz McDonald: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Welcome back! Paugy is open for the season and looking better than ever! This is my second year as our Membership Chair. I'm looking to make this a fun, enjoyable season for everyone. I'm always open for suggestions on how to improve the club. This year Paugy will hold an "Open House" on Sunday, June 1th. Paugy will invite those from surrounding towns to come enjoy a day with us at no cost to them. If you know of anyone who is interested in trying our club, this is a great opportunity. Ask your friends or family to join you. They can bring lunch or purchase it from our new, improved snack bar, Paugusset Grill. Once again, Paugy will have a float in the town of Orange Memorial Day Parade. Please join us Sat May 24th at 10 am to decorate the float in Paugy's parking lot. The parade is Sun May 25th at 11:30 am. Meeting time and place for the Memorial Day Parade is Sun May 25th at 11:15 am behind the tennis courts at High Plains Community Center on Orange Center Road. Our fee schedule has changed for this year: New Members
Existing Members Guest Fees "Ask not what Paugy can do for you; ask what you can do for Paugy" Generally speaking, the more members we have, the healthier our Club is. Increased membership = increased revenues = better facilities. If there is just one thing you contribute to your Club this year, please bring us a new membership. It is of vital importance to our Club's long term prosperity. Contact me at 795-5520 or membership@paugy.com. I look forward to seeing you all at the club. Liz

The courts – On September 30, 2007 a massive member led tree cutting effort was undertaken to clear the trees (that have long been a nuisance) overhanging court 1 and courts 7, 8, & 9. This was just the first effort to improve Paugy's tennis facilities. Architect & Paugy member, Gerry Panico, is now in the process of designing Paugy's new tennis facility. The first stage of this process will likely begin immediately after Labor Day & involve new hard courts (4, 5, & 6), new har-tru courts (1, 2, & 3), & a new lighting system. I realize my fellow Paugy tennis players have waited years for this to happen. As with the recent capital improvements to our big & kiddie pools, the board has exercised due diligence in making sure members are getting as much bang for our buck as possible. Our new pools, tennis courts, and parking lot should help us attract new members & really make Paugy swimming & tennis a powerhouse with which to be reckoned. Also of note, the first ladies tennis interclub has been scheduled against the New Haven Tennis Assoc for Wednesday June 11th at 10 a.m. at Paugy. If you would like to play in this, please contact Amy Kolligian at kskahk@optonline.net. Finally, a reminder that all checks for clinics and kid's tennis are to be made payable to the Paugusset Club. If you are taking private lessons from Andy, checks are to be made payable to him.

Our staff, led by Ken, has been hard at work getting both the big pool facility and our brand new kiddie pool ready for opening day. We anticipate that the new kiddie pool will be a big hit with Paugy's youngest members (and their parents) as it is truly a state of the art pool for the youngsters with a fun mushroom fountain feature included! We believe that the big pool will be better-then-ever this year as the kinks in the system after last year's refurbishment have been worked out. It should all add up to more water fun for everyone at Paugy this summer!! Dave, Jack, & Ken

| Health & Safety Chair, VP Dr. Chris Cogguillo: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
As the new season starts, I would like to welcome everyone back. You'll find some significant changes to the Club – especially the parking lot and kiddie pool. With that said, I would like to remind our members to drive slow (5 mph max) and watch out for our children. The traffic pattern in the parking lot will be different, so take it easy. Parents, your children are strictly forbidden from playing in the Paugy parking lot. This includes the island where you first enter the Club. The board asks ALL adults to help us enforce this rule. If you see a child running out to play in the parking lot, please stop them. We will all be devastated if one of our children gets hurt! As for the kid's pool, the rule of thumb is: children using the pool need to be under direct adult supervision. Older children will not be allowed to use the pool, unless specifically invited in at times. It is going to be a big temptation for some of these older kids, so parents, please helps us keep the experience pleasant for all. Also, please keep in mind that the lifeguards stock first-aid essentials for minor emergencies. Also on hand we have emergency medications for more serious conditions, such as Benadryl and epi-pens for allergic reactions, and albuterol for asthma, as well as some others; but only a parent or medical professional can administer these medications to children. The club has an AED (automatic electronic defibrillator) on site. I would ask that all members glance at the rules and regulations in the beginning of the season, so the summer is safe for all our members and guests. Chris |
