As I sit here and enjoy the remaining warm days of autumn, I can't help but reflect on the wonderful times I shared at Paugusset this summer. Paugy '07 was a summer sure to remember. Our membership drive was a complete success and led to a significant increase in membership. I am happy to report that we are extremely close to full capacity. A big thanks to all of you who recruited new members and made every effort to get your friends, neighbors and co-workers to join our wonderful Club. Please continue campaigning for Paugy throughout the winter months and help us achieve our goal of 265 family memberships for 2008. Application materials are easily accessible through our website, www.paugy.com/pages/membership.html I would also like to thank our Club Manager, Ken Pierson, for doing an outstanding job this season. Our pool was sparkling and refreshing every day and the many no-cooks were a blast. We had a record turnout of members this year at our functions. My favorite was Super Paugy Sunday. Ken organized a fun–filled day of events for the children and adults and the catered food was gone in minutes! Well done Ken! Our new tennis director, Andy Vonderheyde, did an incredible job implementing our tennis programs this year. He organized and instructed tennis clinics for people of all ages. Our tennis tournaments were exciting to watch and all the participants had a fun time. It was also great to see many of you hitting some tennis balls out on the courts on the no-cook days. Andy should be commended for a job well done. Another thank you to Phil Grande, our Buildings & Grounds Chairman. All of the recent improvements to our facilities and grounds are directly attributed to his hard work and supervision. Also, our Social Director, Rosemarie Helwig, deserves praise for her outstanding work on organizing all of our wonderful social events. A lot of time and energy went into planning those events, especially our sold-out Lobster Bake. In closing, I would like to encourage members to attend our monthly board meetings, become proactive and get involved with your club. We are always looking for help and will gladly respond to your questions, suggestions or concerns. Check our website, www.paugy.com for our scheduled meeting dates. I wish everyone a happy, healthy upcoming holiday season and look forward to seeing you at our club events. Lisa Stackpole, Club President

Summer '07 at Paugy was exemplary. We have many accomplishments to celebrate regarding club membership, activities, management, tennis, grounds and facility improvements. We have a cohesive board with numerous objectives for Paugy '08. Under Lisa Stackpole's capable stewardship, we will continue to improve "Our Club." Please remember that "Paugy" is a "member run club" requiring a spirit of volunteerism and contribution. As we embark on "Paugy '08," Let's make next spring and summer the time for record involvement and volunteerism at "Our Club". Until Spring Cleanup....... Richard J. Zorena, President-Elect 2009

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the members for their prompt payments. I will begin billing for 2008 on January 1st this year to give everyone a few extra months to spread out their payments. Once again, all dues must be paid by Memorial Day (or specific payment arrangements must be made with me) otherwise access to the Club will not be permitted. There will be a delinquent list posted at the Club. We are offering a special this fall. Avoid a probable increase in dues and lock into 2007 rates if you pay your 2008 dues by November 15, 2007. You will also receive 10 free guest passes when payment is made. This special offer is only for complete payments. If you are interested in this special offer, please email me at treasurer@paugy.com. If you have a balance due PLEASE be sure to get your payment in promptly. I have enjoyed working with everyone this past year and look forward to another GREAT year at Paugy in 2008! P.S. we looking into accepting credit cards as payment for all bills next year, stay tuned. Lisa Earley, Club Treasurer

Sunday September 30th, 2007 Paugy members hard at work pruning trees around courts 1, 7, 8, & 9 |
|||
I can't believe that fall is here already. It seems like yesterday we were all gathered around the pool, on the courts and under the tent enjoying any one of the fantastic summer days which culminated in Super Paugy Sunday. I'm already thinking of next summer! As we shut down the facility for the off-season all of our buildings and grounds are in order. The plumbing will be shut down and winterized, and the tennis courts will close down in mid-October. Any inquiries into Club rental should be directed to Ken in the office. A September 30 tree pruning day will be followed by some other events during the winter, hopefully including more tree trimming and a parking lot expansion. If you have any suggestions regarding facility improvement, please contact me at buildings@paugy.com. I appreciate everyone's help throughout the season. Phil Grande, Buildings & Grounds Chairman

The upgraded pool was a great success this summer. Special thanks to Ken and his staff for keeping the pool in great shape. The water was perfect and much cleaner due to the new filtering system. Even the water heater worked well after a shaky start. With a few more tweaks it will be even better next year. The pool itself has been closed up for the winter. The shower/dressing room building is in the process of being winterized and the pool chairs will be stored shortly. Dave Pite, Pool Co-Chairman

Also, I would like to ask for committee members for our 2nd Winter Ball. We think January would be a perfect time of year for our black-tie (optional) event. We will need help with invitations, rsvp's, seating chart, decorations, set-up, clean-up, bar service, and shoppers! In 2005, it was an elegant event....what good looking members we have! And you thought we wear bathing suits year- round! Call Rose Marie at 882-0789 to volunteer. Paugy Book Club will continue to meet monthly throughout the year. Please e-mail Amy Kolligian kskahk@optonline.net for information. Rose Marie Helwig, Social Chair

Under the direction of Paugy 1st year Tennis Director, Andy Vonderheyde, this summer's tennis programs were extremely successful. My sincere appreciation & gratitude to Andy and his very capable assistant pros Brian Kennedy & Anders Vonderheyde. They made my job as Tennis Chair a pleasure. My thanks also goes to my much better half Amy for organizing the ladies tennis events (inter club, member guest, etc.) as well as our numerous mixed doubles tennis socials. If you enjoyed them, thank her! Left up to me, beer would have been the only thing served. Speaking of which, we had great turnouts & more fun at men's night than I can recall ever having. I attribute this in part to our many 1st year members. They brought an infectious enthusiasm to the courts & Club this summer. I believe a constant influx of new members keeps Paugy's blood pumping strong. Please heed Pres. Stackpole's words in the beginning of this letter and "continue campaigning for Paugy throughout the winter months". As I'm writing this piece to you, I have just returned (very sore) from a full day of tree work at the Club. The goal was to prune the big oak hanging over court 1 and to remove a full row of trees along the back & side of courts 7 thru 9. Under the very capable leadership of Buildings and Grounds Chair, Phil Grande, this goal is now complete. These trees had created havoc on the har-tru courts for years. As he did in the spring when we pruned trees around the pool, Phil provided the Club (at no charge) a bucket truck, back hoe, wood chipper, & chain saws. In doing so, he has saved Paugusset thousands & thousands of dollars! As a member I want to personally thank him (& Michele for allowing him) for his countless hours of dedication to Paugy the last 6 months. This newsletter is not long enough to list all that he has done for our Club. With the exception of our summer staff, Paugusset is a member run club! It heartened me to see a dozen or so Paugy members giving up this beautiful Sunday to work all day at improving their Club – thank you all! I encourage you to stop in next time when you're driving by Paugy & see the handy work J As for the hard courts (4, 5, & 6), I had hoped to start renovating them this fall. The process of getting bids & studying exactly what needs to be done has been slow & frustrating. Rest assured, they will be renovated along with the lighting & fencing. Your patience is appreciated. Nobody at Paugusset wants the hard courts re-done more than me (just ask any board member)! From Andy: I enjoyed my first year as Tennis Director at Paugusset, the membership is terrific and there is so much enthusiasm for all aspects of my favorite sport. I had a terrific first year with our junior clinics, there were 140 juniors involved with the program. Our ladies were totally into their tennis through the USTA teams and their own individual improvements. The men were always interested in joining events of all kinds which makes my job even more enjoyable. I would like to thank everyone on the board at Paugusset for all of their help and guidance to help me make my first season a great success. Kirk S. Kolligian, Tennis Chairman
